High Peaks Resort

Lake Placid, New York

Anchoring Lake Placid‘s historic main street shopping, entertainment, and dining district, the 125,000 SF six-story High Peaks Resort was transformed from a monolithic concrete contemporary hotel to an Adirondack-styled resort and retail center with a new facade having materials, scale, and variety reflective of this pristine resort community.

Key was the creation of the new Dancing Bear Restaurant. Wrapping itself around a hub intersection, the two-story restaurant was designed with a multi-level party deck complete with open bar, fire pits, lounge furniture and a spectacular view of Mirror Lake.

To further the resort’s mountain-village image, its massive 300’ long retail facade was subdivided into 7 individual shops each with its own Adirondack identity and boutique-like scale.
